ExifTool

ExifTool is a pretty practical tool for checking, editing, and writing metadata for any photo stored on your PC. In fact, this application is compatible with multiple formats such as EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, JFIF, GeoTIFF, ICC Profile, Photoshop IRB, FlashPix, and AFCP.
Another advantage of using ExifTool is its ability to read information from all the most popular digital camera manufacturers, such as Canon, Nikon, GoPro, and Sony. This application can not only extract metadata for photos but also analyze videos for GPS tags and other helpful information about the recording.
With ExifTool, it's easy to check metadata for any photo, video, or other multimedia file. It works via command line, too, so you don't have spend too much time or your PC's resources on this task.

Exiftool Documentation

  1. Exiftool is a mature and reliable metadata reading and writing application. Although this article was written in 2010, Exiftool and the Exiftool syntax seldom change except to add new tags and new capabilities. I put this article up on my website mostly so I would have a quick reference for the Exiftool commands that I use the most often.
  2. ExifTool is a command-line application built specifically for helping you read, write and edit metadata information for images, audio and video files. Extensive file type support.

ExifTool provides us with a great power to write most of the information on the EXIF tags, that anyone might want to alter, but some tags are protected because they describe the image’s physical characteristics that we can’t change with ExifTool, such as compression.
